Pelican Feeding was an after thought to my Kangaroo Island adventure. I'm not big into birds so I didn't make this a priority. Now that I've seen the program I wish I would have done this sooner. Even if you don't like birds or fish, this is one of the coolest things I've seen on the island and is by far the cheapest as well.
What to Expect:
The exhibition is as laid-back and down to earth as the island itself. Walk right up to the site and grab a seat for the pelican feeding. The feeding starts at five but there's not a huge need to get there way early. There are plenty of seats for everyone because the site is outdoors.
For the first few minutes the Pelican Man will chat about the pelicans and their behavior and habits. After the chat you will get to watch the Pelican Man feed the seagulls while the pelicans watch in envy. After the seagulls are somewhat happy the pelicans get their turn. The program is ended when you get to laugh as the pelicans try to dive underwater for extra fish.
The whole thing is up close and personal. You will get amazing pictures but be sure you don't sit too close unless you are willing to get a bit dirty with the birdies.
The great thing about this is that it's both amazing and cheap. Adults only have to pay a $5 admission and for an hour's worth of entertainment that's a bargain!
Located on the warf in Kingscotte, this site is an easy place to find. It's just down from the Ozone Hotel and if you can't find it just ask a local--they are super friendly.
Pelican feeding happens every day at five in the evening. You have one chance. Don't miss it!
